Most of What You Need to Know About Type 2 Diabetes

Probably you have heard people mention about diabetes and you have never really understood what the condition is all about. Well, in most cases, they would be referring to the type 2 diabetes as it is the most common form of diabetes. The most amazing bit of this condition is that not so many people realize that they are at risk of facing it. The background of the condition is that at the point you are suffering it, your body would be facing shortage of insulin which is very critical for your body to be able to use the glucose that you need for energy. Actually insulin is responsible for the transportation of sugar from your blood to your body cells.

The situation is a little complex when you have this form of diabetes. You see, it is not that your body has no insulin but you just don’t have sufficient enough to meet the needs of your body. Alternatively, you would be insulin resistance in the sense that your body just refuses to make proper use of the insulin it has and you would have problems. The risk here is that your blood sugar levels are likely to go up and that would give birth to even more complications.

You may therefore be interested in getting to understand some of the diabetes symptoms so that you never join the lot of those who may be suffering in darkness. Diabetes can be managed and it is always safer for you when you know about the condition soon enough. There are 4 common symptoms that may indicate diabetes but they are not entirely restricted to diabetes. When you feel thirsty too frequent, when you get tired, when you notice some weight loss or you notice that you are frequently passing urine, and then you need to go and have your blood sugar levels checked.

It is advisable that you take action soonest possible when you have any of the above symptoms. The risk with taking them lightly is that sooner you would become used to the problems and you may never realize what they are indicating. Then, your insulin levels would get even less and lesser and this would mean advanced diabetes which may not be so easy to manage. In some cases, you may have blurred vision or recurring thrush and these are also warning signs that you would need to take a keen notice of.

Once you have noticed that you have most of the symptoms mentioned above, you would need to go for a check for diagnosis to be made. A urine sample will be required from you and then a test known as dipstick would be done to establish the glucose level in your urine. Some doctors may recommend a blood test to see the level of glucose in your blood. Once a diagnosis of diabetes is made, then you will need to commence treatment.

It is important to note that treatment for diabetes mellitus is always carried out with three main aims. One, it is always to ensure that the blood glucose levels are normalized. Two, diabetes presents with other risk factors and so the treatment would be to minimize these other risk factors. Finally, the treatment would be initiated to detect and treat any complications before it is too late. It is important that you take precaution now that you have this information.

Herpes symptoms and the cure

Herpes as the name suggests is viral infection caused by Herpes Simplex Virus type 1 (HSV-1) and type 2 (HSV-2) and depending on where the infection has occurred it is categorized as Oral herpes, Genital Herpes, Ocular Herpes, Cerebral Herpes Infection encephalitis, Herpes Whitlow, Neonatal Herpes etc. The most common form of herpes from the above category is Oral herpes generally known as cold sores and result in face or mouth infection. Next on the list is Genital herpes which is simply known as herpes and is type-2 infection.

The herpes virus is transmitted more often through direct contact with infected lesions or the body fluid of diseased region. Another mode of transmission is skin to skin contact or sexual contact during asymptomatic period. Herpes infection lasts from 2-21 days between the periods of active disease and remission period and later on the viruses move to sensory nerves and lifelong resides there in latent form. Once infected herpes virus cannot be removed from the body and the disease can again appear at any other point of time in life.

Herpes infection is easily contracted by persons whose immune system is either underdeveloped or suppressed such as in newborn kids, transplant recipients, or AIDS patients. They are very much susceptible to severe complications that may arise due to HSV infections. Moreover cognitive diseases such as bipolar disorder and even Alzheimer’s disease are also associated with HSV infection. Another disease Bell’s palsy which is a type of facial paralysis is also believed to be caused due to reactivation of HSV type-1 infection.

The usual herpes symptoms are varying depending on the place of infection. In case of oral infection these symptoms are visible as multiple sores, superficial ulcers of mouth associated with acute gingivitis. The symptoms of genital herpes are rather difficult and confusing and often resemble other infections such as atopic dermatitis, fungal infections and urethritis. It is therefore advised to undergo laboratory testing to detect genital herpes. The other symptoms generally associated with herpes infection include fever; loss of appetite, muscle aches etc.

Prevention is cure is best applicable for herpes infection. Although there are antiviral prescribed for herpes cure, it is best advised that one should take preventive measures against herpes infection. Vaccines are under trial to prevent as well as treat existing infections. Alternatively one can also opt for certain dietary supplements and alternative medicines for curing the infection. A lot of studies have been conducted on the use of certain herbs and natural substances such as thyme, oemag-3 fatty acids, vitamin A & C, bioflavonoid, zinc etc and have found them as possible cure for herpes infection.

Oncology nursing

The changing lifestyle, increasing pollution and addition of unknown contaminants in the diet all have triggered the incidence of cancer. Several researches have indicated that every year 3 to 7 million new cancer cases are diagnosed worldwide.  Such an increasing number of cancer patients would require proportionate increase in demand of oncology specialists including the nurses and the doctors.

As it is evident that cancer diagnosis is quite challenging for the patient to come to the terms with that darkest phase of their life and it is the strong support of family and friends together with proper medical care which would eventually lead them to survive the disease. To add to this are the long term side effects of several sessions of radio therapy and chemo therapy that takes its toll on the patient.

There is an increasingly demand of proper oncology services including oncology nursing to provide specialized care that is required to be given to cancer patients. Several data obtained from various surveys carried out among practicing oncologists, cancer hospitals, oncology students, oncology researchers have indicated that the demand of special services for cancer patients would rapidly increase with aging of population and increased survival rate of current patients added by the fact that large number of oncology workforce is aging and retiring. Not only this, evolution of new therapies is also going to influence the increasing demand of cancer care services.

The special care required for cancer patients not only during the treatment phase but also post recovery has resulted in demand for skilled nurses who could efficiently look after these patients. Apart from good care these patients would require assistance in overcoming the physical and psychological trauma that is associated with the disease. Specialised courses are being run by several cancer hospitals to train and qualify nurses who are skilled enough to independently take care of cancer patients both during the treatment and also while they are on the recovery path.

Additionally the demand for better cancer patient care services in future could also be met by increasing the number of fellowships positions in oncology, promote the use of non-physician clinics for better after care, enhancing the role of primary healthcare physicians in patient after care and remission.

So if you are looking forth to opt for a nursing course that provides specialisation in cancer patient care, this is the opportune time to explore the vistas and make your services available to the patients who are not only struggling with life but also with the after effects that are associated with radio and chemo therapy.
